Subscription Model

The model of offering services by subscription. Two common subscription models are platform-as-a-service (PaaS) and software-as-a-service (SaaS).

  • PaaS: An environment (a "platform") in which to build your {CMS}-backed website and deploy it. The environment is generally marketed as being optimized to run applications built with that CMS.
  • SaaS: A complete, hosted CMS that allows a website to be managed editorially without having to develop or deploy code.

Both PaaS and SaaS are normally multi-tenant services.

This is the opposite of on-premise software.
